Service Descriptions

  • Adult Day Services


  • Offers a full or part day program for socialization, supervision, recreation, health and social services, and transportation. This service provides needed respite to families and caregivers of the older adult.

  • Adult Protective Services


  • County Departments of Job and Family Services provide protective services to vulnerable adults, age 60 and older who are suspected to be suffering from abuse, neglect or exploitation.

  • Alzheimer's Disease Services


  • Provides information, education, and other services to individuals and their families who are dealing with Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders.

  • Caregiver Services


  • Services to support caregivers that may include information about services; assistance gaining access to services; temporary respite care including personal care, homemaker, and adult day services for the care receiver; and training and support groups.

  • Congregate Meals


  • Hot, nutritious lunches served to older adults in group settings such as churches, senior centers, schools, etc. Donations are requested although not required.

  • Home Care Options


  • Most older people choose to stay in their own home or apartment as long as possible. A variety of home care services are available to persons who may need some assistance to remain independent. These services may include help with bathing or dressing, or help with homemaking activities such as meal preparation, laundry and light housekeeping.

  • Home-Delivered Meals (or Meals-on-Wheels)


  • Hot, nutritious meals delivered to homebound older people on weekdays. May include special diets and/or extra frozen meals for evenings and weekends.

  • Hospice


  • In-home or facility-based care designed to help the terminally ill live as comfortably as possible.

  • Housing Options


  • Senior housing options include Independent Living, Assisted Living, Congregate Facilities, Continuing Care Retirement Communities, and Shared Living options.

  • Information and Assistance


  • Agencies that provide information and assistance accessing senior services.

  • Legal Services


  • Legal counseling is available to persons age 60 and over.  Donations are suggested but not required.

  • Long-term Care Ombudsman


  • Advocates for residents in nursing homes, assisted living, residential care facilities, and home care services. This program provides information and investigates and resolves complaints.

  • Nursing Homes


  • Facilities licensed by the state to offer residents personal care and skilled nursing care 24 hours a day.

  • Respite Care


  • The provision of temporary, short-term care or supervision for an eligible older adult, in place of the family/primary caregiver.  Services can be arranged in emergencies or on an intermittent basis to provide relief to the family caregiver.

  • Senior Centers


  • Full and part-time senior centers offer social activites, education, and recreation. Many offer onsite meals, health screenings, creative arts, exercise and volunteer opportunities. Some large multipurpose centers directly deliver, or partner with local organizations to deliver services which help older adults to live independently at home.

  • Transportation Services


  • Transportation for older adults. Some programs are limited to persons with disabilities or special needs.
