Medicare Hospital CoveragePart A (hospital insurance) helps pay for: l Inpatient hospital care, l Some skilled nursing facility care, l Hospice care, and l Some home health care. Despite what many people think, Medicare covers only a small proportion of the long-term care you may need if you have a chronic illness or disability. It does not cover personal or custodial care. You will not pay a premium for Part A if you or your spouse paid enough Medicare taxes while working. Even if you or your spouse didn’t pay Medicare taxes while you worked, you may be able to buy Part A if you are age 65. There is financial assistance available to help those with limited income and assets to pay their Medicare expenses.
