Homestead Tax Exemption

If you own the home in which you reside and it is your primary residence, you may be entitled to a 2 ½ % Homestead Tax reduction.

The Homestead Tax Exemption is available to senior citizens, disabled persons, and surviving spouses that meet certain criteria.  During the year in which you first file you must:

l      Be at least 65 years of age, or permanently and totally disabled, or a surviving spouse (at least 59 years of age) of a previous participant

l      Have a total annual income that does not exceed $25,000.  This amount can simply be described as your total adjusted gross income plus your social security benefits.

l      Own and occupy your primary place of residence as of January 1 of the year you file.
